Tulamben’s ‘Gold Rush’

Tulamben’s ‘Gold Rush’ comes and goes frequently…in the form of the golden or yellow variation of the leaf scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus).

Sometimes we may assume that we see a different leaf scorpionfish when coming across a different coloured one during a dive. But, did you know that these fish moult every 10-14 days!? So if you’re diving repeatedly for several days and experience a dive site more than once, you may be seeing that same leaf scorpionfish from the last dive…but in that time has moulted into a different colour! Talk about a ‘dress’ change!

One of our favourite variations of leaf scorpionfish at Bali Dream Divers is the gold or ochre coloured ‘dress’ of this fish species. There’s one or two that sway in the current whilst perched on a piece of the USAT Liberty Shipwrecks’ stern. ‘Go Dive’ ¬†Indonesia’s ‘Island of the Gods’ with our PADI Pro Divers and witness these special fish in their natural habitat showcasing their natural ‘dress’ changing talents. Or better yet – GoPRO! The more you dive, the better your chances!
